Gene earned a music degree from the Dana School of Music in Youngstown Ohio in 1970 and put it to use as an Army bandsman from 1970-73. Since that time, he has been a frequent music performer in addition to his work in television and media.

Starting in the mid 80s, Gene began composing and arranging mostly for brass groups. In the mid 90s, he branched out to writing for band and orchestra and then for vocal groups. He is a published composer/arranger and is continuing to expand his interests and writing in a variety of music styles.
